Salt
If You would allow Your Brother a moment of Your Valuable Time I would like to share a few things regarding Salt.
Brief History of Humans and Salt
“Worth its weight in gold” is an expression that served well for salt in ancient times. The history of salt is sprinkled with piracy, war, economics, religion, and health.
In fact, the next time you contemplate your current salary, consider that the very word “salary” is derived from the Latin word sal because Romans often received their pay in salt.
If this is hard to accept, consider that during the Age of Discovery, Africans and European explorers traded an ounce of salt for an ounce of gold — even-steven.
Around 110 BC, salt trade was so valued that salt piracy was punishable by death. And Mahatma Gandhi even used salt as major leverage against the British Empire in 1930 when he led thousands of people to the sea to collect their own salt in order to avoid the salt tax imposed by the British.
The Importance of Salt
One point everyone can agree on is that the body needs Salt to function.
If we look at the big picture for a moment, we can recognize that:
A human embryo develops in salty amniotic fluid.
Our developed human bodies possess three distinct fluid systems – blood plasma, lymphatic fluid, and extracellular fluid — all salty fluids.
As a main component of the body’s extra-cellular fluids, salt helps carry nutrients into the cells. It also helps regulate other body functions, such as blood pressure and fluid volume, and works on the lining of blood vessels to keep the pressure balance normal. The concentration of sodium ions in the blood is directly related to the regulation of safe body-fluid levels.
0.9% sodium chloride in water is isotonic with blood plasma. It is known medically as normal saline. It is the mainstay of fluid replacement therapy that is widely used in medicine in prevention or treatment of dehydration, or as an intravenous therapy to prevent hypovolemic shock due to blood loss.
The propagation of nerve impulses by signal transduction is regulated by sodium ions. (Potassium, another metal closely related to sodium, is also a major component in the same body systems).
Salt is an energy carrier. It is also responsible for sending messages from the brain to muscles through the nervous system so that muscles move on command. When you want to move your arm or any muscle in the body, the brain sends a message to a Salt molecule that passes it to a potassium molecule and then back to a Salt molecule etc., etc., until it gets to its final destination and the muscle moves. This is known as the sodium-potassium ion exchange. Therefore, without sodium(Salt), you would never be able to move one muscle of your body.
So we find that Salt is very important in the right proportions and balance….
So if we take into our bodies in the amount and balance of Salt it is most beneficial to our health and wellbeing.
However, if we over do on the Salt we can stand the risk of a Stroke or Heart Attack… The Body can not take an over abundance of Salt… It will Kill Us…
Let’s do a comparison. Let’s look at the Salty Ocean. It has the right balance of Salt and Water and Oxogen to Give and Support Life… The Salty Ocean is abundant with Life.
Then on the other hand let’s look at the Dead Sea. The Salt content is so high it will not produce or support life. No life what so ever… It’s simply way to much Salt Content. The Salt will burn anything live or living.
Now let’s look at one more illustration more down to earth for us Country Folk know what I’m talking about…
Say you have out in your pasture a Block of Salt called a Salt Lick. That is for the Cows to Lick and get some Salt into their system as needed…
Now what we can do we can just lay that Salt Lick on the ground or on a post so the Cow’s can Lick it as they need it…. For their bodies will let them know how much to take in for health’s sake…. It’s built in their Nature… It helps to have good healthy cows and it makes them thirsty to drink more water.
But say for some reason I take that same Big Block of Salt and Cram that Salt Block down the Cows Throat what the heck do you think is gonna happen to the cow? Well if you don’t know you gonna kill your cow forcing the Whole Thing down Her Throat…
All she needs is just a Little Bit… Just a Small Amount of Salt goes a very Long Way …
Brother said all that to say this Beloved….
Be Salt and Be Salty but Beware and Season with Salt Lightly.
You will be surprised what a Little Salt can do. Less is More.
Friends once you get folk Thirsty using a Little Salt and not Choke ‘em or Burn ‘em then You can Lead them to The Well of Living Waters where they can Drink Freely and Never Thirst Again.
Salt Meaning = We the Qodeshiym (Set-Apart Ones) Living in Truth (Torah)
————————
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a menorah; and it gives light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
MATTITHYAHU (MATTHEW) 5:13-16
Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
QOLASIYM (COLOSSIANS) 4:6
Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg?
IYOV (JOB) 6:6
Shalom!
